Exactly 60 years ago, in a place called Jakarta, a small group of people gathered in the front yard of a house. The house owner, Soekarno, stood in front of a radio microphone, proclaiming the independence of the people of Indonesia and the formation of the Republic of Indonesia. On that very day, the red-white flag was raised for the first time.
On the same day, still somewhere in Jakarta, a baby boy was born. That boy was my father. A boy who 37 years later gave me his love endlessly until now.
I phoned him today. My family was celebrating his birthday in one of my aunt's house in Jakarta. I was on the phone when they sang the birthday song and when my dad made his wishes and blew the candle. I said goodbye after that, wishing him happy birthday once again.

No, the original is not raised anymore. It is kept in the museum at the national monument. The material deterioration makes the flag too fragile to be raised.
The one raised every independence day till today is the replica (exact replica i suppose). The original has blood stain of the first lady somewhere.
